 Margaret Sugar

Welcome to Margaret Sugar's website. This is a celebration of Margie's life & impact on so many people over the years.

On August 8th, Margie was diagnosed with an aggressive, rare (poorly-differentiated neuroendocrine) cancer which ended her life on October 14th. Margie remained positive and content through her illness. Realistic about not fighting it, instead she continued to connect with her many friends and family, setting another example on how to live our own lives in the face of adversity, with serenity & peace.

Margie lived her life large, set a model for us all, and we should cherish our time with her. Feel free to browse all the blogs, look at some photos, or enter your brief comments, or longer remembrances.

Dear Friends and Family,

I have come to my place of work this Saturday morning to write all of you this email. This is where I have the most current list of my contact names and email addresses. At home we recently purchased a MAC computer. This is not the right time to learn a new computer system during this time of loss as my concentration is not the best right now. My work computer is the one I usually use and it is familiar and reliable so I write this note to you now on this quiet Saturday...

Hi Margie: It was a delight to see you at the dance concert last week. I'm going to try to get to our travel lunch on Friday at Libby's (even though I have to go to a meeting at the same time!) because I really want to get to spend some time with you. Nick and I have been back from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan for 10 days now and Nick is almost caught up. It was a strenuous trip but totally fascinating, partly because we knew so little about Central Asia, partly because of special insights we got as guests of the Mayor of Dushanbe who is said to be the second most powerful man in the country. Can't wait to share some of our experiences. I am really inspired by your example of coping courageously and graciously with your physical condition. Hi, Margie. I wanted to check in with you today and see how you are feeling and what you are doing. I left a small bouquet at your door (some workmen left the front door open) with only a little water since the rest spilled in my car after I slammed on the brakes. Reed and I are off to Turkey on Wed. until the end of Oct., as you might remember. I am wishing you a deep, fresh air breath in the magnificent golden fall. Love you. Hi Margie - John and I send our best wishes to you from Paris. We had a great time in London, but John got sick in Paris. He is now much improved but is still in the American Hospital here. We can probably travel next week. I'm sure you are familiar with Paris - it is so beautiful! Hi to Mac! Love, Laura and John Submitted By: Laura and John

Just want you to know, Margie, that we're thinking of you. We admire the way you and your children and grandchildren have come together to make this period of your life meaningful and loving. We love you too, Dick & Ginny Submitted By: Virginia Walters

Hello Margie, What a beautiful, brave spirit you are! Peter just informed me of your situation. I love the pictures of you. You are radiant. I have such fond memories of visiting you in Boulder a couple of times. And had one of the best ski trips of my life when staying at the condo many years ago. Lovingly, Ingrid Submitted By: Ingrid Bredenberg

Hi Margie - Two main reason for this email. first ) We were delighted to see you at UUCB Sunday. I was hoping you'd stay around for coffee hour, but I realize how 'hectic' that can be. second) your web site must have been created by someone (was it John?) who really knows their way around a computer. Anyway, it was good to see you, but I noticed that one message mentioned your sister and brother-in-law having just returned from a Baltic Sea cruise. Well, imagine that! Helene and I also just returned from similar cruise. We had left the dock at Copenhagen at 8 o'clock on the 8th day of the 8th month in the year '08. Helene and I traveled with Ruth Harvey and Rich Kaess for the ten day cruise. It'd be such a coincidence if your sister and brother-in-law happened to be on the same Princess cruise. Someone at church said you were sort of over whelmed with visitors, but if you ever need a 'sounding board' or if you want visitors, just call me at 303-449-4744 and we'll

Dear Margie, I was happy to read on John's blog that he mentioned Thanksgiving. Does this mean that you will try to be here to vote in the election?? I take heart from your belief that Obama will win. I am doing a little volunteer work here in Berlin to help Americans here obtain their absentee ballots. And I just called my county board of elections to work as a pollworker on election day. I'm thinking of you and your family and enjoying seeing all the photos on your blog. Love and a big hug to you! Dear Margie. I have been on travel and often thinking of you and your wonderful family. My thoughts go back to the great visit we had last summer and I am so grateful for that. I also fondly recall the good times we shared in the early years on Bentleyville Road and the more recent visit with Gwen in Pennsylvania. All the best to you for comfort and joy during this tender time with your close knit and loving family. Love, Hal Submitted By: Hal Kerber
