 Margaret Sugar

Welcome to Margaret Sugar's website. This is a celebration of Margie's life & impact on so many people over the years.

On August 8th, Margie was diagnosed with an aggressive, rare (poorly-differentiated neuroendocrine) cancer which ended her life on October 14th. Margie remained positive and content through her illness. Realistic about not fighting it, instead she continued to connect with her many friends and family, setting another example on how to live our own lives in the face of adversity, with serenity & peace.

Margie lived her life large, set a model for us all, and we should cherish our time with her. Feel free to browse all the blogs, look at some photos, or enter your brief comments, or longer remembrances.

Dear Friends and Family,

I have come to my place of work this Saturday morning to write all of you this email. This is where I have the most current list of my contact names and email addresses. At home we recently purchased a MAC computer. This is not the right time to learn a new computer system during this time of loss as my concentration is not the best right now. My work computer is the one I usually use and it is familiar and reliable so I write this note to you now on this quiet Saturday...

Although I have said my final goodbye to this world class lady, Margie, I still feel the pain of her loss. It will take some time to shed the loneliness I feel. Her love is still in my life and I see her smiling face when I close my eyes. At my age I despair of ever finding anyone to take her place in my heart. My final wish for her is that her soul is souring with eagles Submitted By: Mac McGinty

I met Margie at Boulder Police Department. We were advocates together, and she was always a ray of sunshine...and kindly advice. In 1996 she shared her special brownie recipe with me - and I have used it ever since, always thinking of her when I made a fresh batch! Margie will be missed. I was so fortunate to know and work with her. Submitted By: Stacy Margolin

Margie thanks for a wonderful life. I remember clearly that Mexican cooking classes and our introduction. There's so much history that without you I would have never had two wonderful children, Tait and Abby. Thank you for the love and care you gave them in those early years. Thank you for adventures skiing and your relentless optimism and curiosity about the world around you. You never had an unkind word for anyone. I learned a great deal from you. To the Family of Margie: I am deeply sadden by the loss of Margie. I met your mum when I was a young child living as a neighbor on Streetsboro Street in Hudson, Ohio. I fondly spent time watching Margie prun her Bonsai collection at the kicthen table, collect chestuts from the tree on the corner of the drive way and walking the land back to the Robinson's property. She was always kind to me, warm and loving with an amazing smile, and a glitter in her eye. You knew she was wise when you met her. Her grace and love will be truly missed. While it has been years since I have seen her (last in 1988 en route to Telluride - I spent the night with a friend and had a fabulous dinner)she will always be an inspiration. God Bless. I read Margie's obituary in the Boulder Daily Camera today (Oct 26). It is a lovely tribute to such a wonderful person. I learned new things about her adventures in life, and look forward to seeing everyone at her memorial service. I also learned of the death of another wonderful UUCB friend, Flo Isackson, on the same page. Such strong women! I am alternately stunned and deeply saddened at the thought of my world without Margie Sugar in it, except in my heart and memory. Our connection began at the Unitarian Church and extended to Summit County, Colorado. I have been so grateful for the blog. Margie's family, thank you for that. I send my heartfelt condolences. I have known Margie all of my life; she knew my parents before they were married in Colorado Springs in 1954. We rekindled our freindship with a family visit in 2001, when we stayed together in several locations around Colorado, and then she visited us in England last fall 2007 to see our farm in Devon. Thanks to email we were able to keep in regular touch this past year, sending photos and exchanging news. We will miss Margie's loving enthusiam for our lives and those of her family and friends, and send to all of the family our very best wishes and our very deepest sympathy. Submitted By: Bea Hearne

Margie was one of my mother Gretel (Bloesch) Marchbanks' oldest and dearest friends, and even though I was only able to get to know her late in her life, i consider her one of the most extraordinary people I will ever be blessed to meet. My mother and I want to leave these words in her memory for her family and friends: "The loss of a single tree stills a thousand songs."--Author Unknown Submitted By: Howard Marchbanks

Marge showed us how to "love life" even while her own life was ebbing away, and she was an inspiration to all of us on how to die the way she had lived, with grace and dignity. We will miss her. Harold & Mim Lasswell. Submitted By: Harold and Mim Lasswell
